Review: We spent the most wonderful week at this delightful Tuscan villa. It is more like a hotel in its standard of accommodation – large rooms, comfy beds, well-equipped kitchens, large showers, everything pristine clean. The owners who live close by are the most wonderful and welcoming hosts; polite, charming, full of useful information about the locality. Paola’s cooking is sensational. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They have managed to achieve a perfect balance between remaining out of sight but being there when you want or need them. There is so much for children to do and so much for adults to explore nearby; the gardens too are beautifully tended and the pool area is perfect. Situated halfway between the two stunning towns of Volterra and San Gimignano. I could not say enough good things about Villa le Ginepraie. A wonderful welcome and experience awaits you.

Vernaccia di San Gimignano D.O.C.G:
This wine has a composition made from 100% grapes Vernaccia di San Gimignano, grown to a height of hills 250 to 280 meters above sea level with the exposure of the vineyards facing south and east, is harvested to the second and third week of September and is bottled in April following the harvest. The color is a pale yellow with greenish reflections, with an intense aroma, fruity and full-flavored and an almond aftertaste typical of the vineyards of Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Chianti Colli Senesi D.O.C.G
The composition of this wine made from Sangiovese, Malvasia del Chianti and Canaiolo, the vineyard is in the South East with an altitude of 280 meters above sea level. Is harvested in the first week of October and is left to ferment in concrete tanks and then aged in French oak barriques of second passage. It is bottled in September after the harvest. The color is a deep ruby red with a fruity and persistent with definite hints of iris and violet. This Chianti has a dry taste and moderately tannic.

Castelvecchio San Gimignano trekking
The reserve of Castelvecchio
This reservation is a few kilometers from the villa San Gimignano. The 
reserve occupies the western part of the Municipality of Poggio, a survey of just over 600 meters, which for almost unbroken forest cover, stands on the hills surrounding cultivated. The reserve is known for the medieval town of Castelvecchio, a military outpost in the town of San Gimignano, which controlled the territory from here on the border with Volterra. The remains of Castelvecchio stand on a rocky cave limestone rock that characterizes the entire reserve and which has influenced the morphology and vegetation, especially in the southern tip of the reserve where the waters of the Botri Libaie and Castelvecchio, have dug deep ravines bordered by steep cliffs. The environment is home to wild boar, deer, birds of prey like hawks and Sparrowhawk Buzzard and small rodents such as the dormouse.
For its natural importance, besides being a natural reserve, Castelvecchio is also a site of Community importance (sic) located inside of the “Habitat” which includes in addition to reserves, much of the hill of the City for a total of 1,114 ha
Borgo di Castelvecchio
This village is mentioned as early as the twelfth century as a fortified settlement pertaining to the bishops of Volterra, and by the end of the 
century San Gimignano was intended to seize it. By the mid 1200’s San Gimignano exercised its sovereignty over the bishops of Volterra Castelvecchio but continued to demand for a long time, “fodoro”, ancient origin of the imperial tax on every household. The castle suffered a rapid decline as early as in 1458, was inhabited by only seven families. Inside the walls of filaretto, partially preserved, there are ruins of ancient buildings, a tower and a Romanesque church with semicircular apse

The villa was built in 1600, was inhabited by sharecroppers who worked for the Marquis, during the Second World War, this farmhouse, like many others have been abandoned. In 2000 began the restructuring of the entire farm, and now we can define a typical Tuscan farmhouse with pool for holidays.
